Ne jamais sous-estimer le premier croquis! Nerver underestimate the first sketch!

Je ne compte plus le nombre de fois où, après avoir travaillé une bonne heure sur la base d'un simple croquis initial, j'arrive à la conclusion que le résultat le plus parlant n'est pas dans la réalisation finale. Il était déjà dans le premier croquis, plus simple et plus sobre souvent. Un peu frustrant, non?

I don't count how many times, after having worked a full hour on the basis of a mere first sketch, I get to the conclusion that the "more talkative" result is not in the final realisation. It was already in the first sketch, often more simple. A bit frustrating, isn't it?

C'est toujours un peu risqué, ces croquis sur le terrain. Entre le terrain humide, quelques outils oubliés et les nuages qui jouent à cache chache, est-ce que ça va marcher?

It's always a bit at risk, outdoor sketching. With the wet ground, some forgotten tools and clouds that come and hide, will it work?

Chaque année, je passe une journée à initier des enfants au dessin et à la peinture en plein air. Le but n'est pas tellement d'essayer de les enseigner que de les laisser peindre et dessiner de la manière qu'ils veulent dans un environnement différent. Je les encourage à s'exprimer. Dans un sens, c'est un jour ou des enfants et un peintre partagent leur passion en travaillant côte à côte. Et j'apprends beaucoup, simplement en les regardant faire leur "travail"!

Every year I spend a day initiating kids to do plein air sketching and painting. The aim is not so much to try teaching them than to let them paint and draw the way they love in a different surrounding. I encourage them to express themselves. In a way, it's a day in which kids and a painter share their passion working side by side. And I learn a lot just by watching them doing their "job"!

Qui aurait pensé il y a des années qu'un masque de protection aurait sa place dans la caisse à outils du professeur? C'est pourtant grâce à lui que j'ai recommencé à proposer mes cours à l'extérieur. Celui d'hier, au château d'Oron, était un vrai régal!

Who would have thought, year ago, that a protection mask would be part of the teacher's tool box? Anayway that's thanks to it that I could offer again outdoor courses. The one I had yesterday, in the castle of Oron, was simply "delicious".

Il est une situation pire que le confinement dû au Covid-19, c'est le confinement + la pénurie alimentaire. C'est ce qui arrive pour des habitants de Katmandou particulièrement pauvres. D'entente avec mes étudiants, l'argent des cours durant le confinement a été versé à cette action.

There is a worse situation than the lockdown due to Covid-19: the Covid-19 + shortage of food. That's what is happening for some especially poor people in Kathmandu. My students and I, we have chosen to give the course fees for this action.
