Dans Le Messager de demain. In tomorrow's Le Messager.

Pour mon illustration mensuelle, je voulais un sujet qui évoque la rentrée scolaire. Donc, j'ai attendu le passage du bus scolaire avec un arrière-plan qui me plaisait; ici le château de Palézieux.

As my monthly posting, I wanted a subject that told about going back to school. So, I waited the school bus with a background I loved; here the castle of Palézieux.

Occupé à faire du vélo cette semaine! Busy cycling this week!

J'avais bien pris mon carnet de croquis et l'intention d'en profiter un peu, mais là-bas, en France, près d'Aix-les-Bains, avec des copains cyclistes, l'effort était davantage placé dans les grimpées de cols. C'était génial, mais trop peu de temps pour s'offrir un croquis. Juste celui-ci au coin d'une table pendant la pause-café.

I took my sketchbook with the intention of using it. But, when staying and cycling in France, near Aix-les-Bains, with fellow cyclists, I had to put my energy climbing the gaps here and there. That was fun, but it left too little time to sketch. Only that one, at the corner of the table, at the coffee break.

Retour à nos journées de croquis! Back to our sketching days!

Quel plaisir de nous retrouver enfin ce mardi 24 mai à Romont pour une journée de croquis. Au lieu de nous battre contre la froide bise, nous avons opté pour des croquis de maquettes en bateau de Daniel Stern, exposées à la Galerie Petits Gris. L'après-midi, le soleil revenu, ce fut le château de Romont (côté abrité du vent!). Je me réjouis de la journée de septembre.

So pleased to be back together that Tuesday May 24th in Romont for a sketching day. Instead of fighting the cold wind, we opted for the Petit Gris Gallery where we could sketch Daniel Stern's ship models. In the afternoon, the sun came back and we choose the castle of Romont (protected from the wind...). I am looking forward to the September's sketching day!

Tennessee Valley

I made that sketch many years ago on a cool and windy day and this is perfectly reflected in my coulors, to my mind. I even wonder if I would be able to do it again in my studio. I doubt it. The other reason is simply I miss that spot, somewhere near my grandkids in California... J'ai fait ce croquis il y a bien des années un jour froid et venteux, ce qui se reflète parfaitement dans mes couleurs, il me semble. Je me demande même si je serais capable de le refaire aussi bien dans mon atelier. J'en doute. L'autre raison est simplement que je m'ennuie de cet endroit, quelque part près de mes petits-enfants en Californie....

Ferlens

Traverser Ferlens, c'est presque hors des chemins battus. Un petit village de la commune de Mézières-Le Jorat. J'ai trouvé cette maison ancienne qui doit avoir des choses à nous raconter sur son passé, un bon sujet pour l'illustration mensuelle sur le journal Le Messager.

Ferlens is a bit out of the beaten tracks, A small village of Mézièrews-Le Jorat. I spotted that old house which may have to tell things about its past, a good subject for my monthly posting for the Le Messager newspaper.

Guillemette était à mes côtés quand je faisais ce croquis, mais j'étais tellement pris par mon travail que j'en oubliais qu'elle me photographiait... Guillemette was on my side when I was sketching, but I was so involved in the process that I didn't notice she was making photos of me...
